Bento #88 Singing Frog

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 11:33 AM 11 comments
This morning I was in a hurry and it was not good at all for picture taking LOL!

By now, I just realised that the focus in the shot is actually the cutlery instead of the box. Not forget to mention, mister J was standing beside me and trying to put his finger on top of the box. Apparently he felt hilarious if his finger 'suddenly' appeared in my snapshot. Grr...

singing frog
Inside the box was green frog from egg sheet on top of white steamed rice, also added with punched-out carrots in musical-note shape. I do not exactly have frog cutter thus I used bear cutter and decorated it with kamaboko and nori for his eyes also mouth. Well, at least the kids saw it correctly as I wished for and giggled "he he he I get a frog in my box!"
On the side was vegetable meatballs, steamed squash and dragonfruit pieces. As usual, an identical  menu was made for miss L.

Starting tomorrow, I will be on business trip to US and Mexico. Thus, no more bento making until two weeks later and will have to ask their caregiver to prepare their lunches. I have told kids about my trip plan and nicely informed them that their boxes will not be fancy during my absence.

Bento #87 The Elves

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 11:16 AM 9 comments
Today's theme is an Elf!
Just wondering myself if it looks like an elf. Here it is...

Miss L's lunch

Mister J's lunch
Inside the box were onigiri, rolled egg sheet, star-shapped fishcake, kani rolls, boiled edamame and peeled mandarins. Half part of the onigiri was covered by inari (tofu sheet) as to resemble the hat. It was further decorated with green flowers (made from egg sheet) and flower buds (made from kamaboko). I did not put the buds in J's box -once again- to avoid his box is getting "too sweet" :b The face part was done by punched-out nori and kani.

One thing that I am excited about, somehow I have managed to make better-than-before egg sheets. Last night, I made one yellow sheet and another green sheet. I did not quite satisfied with the yellow one thus I just rolled it up, but I did love the result for green one. Whew... :)

Bento #86

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 2:00 PM 9 comments

Hello kitty is always be my favourite hehehe.. so I would not mind to often have it. I need to make sure they would not mind it too.

This is the lunch box for miss L. The salmon sausage flower was done with mini cutter. The shrimp was taken from last night's dinner. Other things would be boiled edamame and halved boiled quail eggs with paw print.

As I do both boxes, in mister J's lunch, I did not put the flower on the kitty's head. In fact, I decorated as if it was a bear instead of a kitty. Other stuff inside were exactly the same for both of them

Bento #85

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 9:43 PM 3 comments

I should have uploaded these since last Friday. Well, because of slow connection (once again), I gave up in posted them.

Alright, the blue box was for mister J and pink box was for miss L. One bento design for them, I just made some adjustments here and there.
First, was the carrot letter. For him, the letter was read as JOV, the nickname for him. At a glance it read as JOY, correct? well, at least he pronounced it correctly. For her, the letter composed as LUNA. Yup, they both excited to see their names on boxes. Just sprinkled furikake surround the letter to add nice touch-up.

The dishes were rolled string bean and baby corn with ham. I did not have a smooth ham sheets, thus I just tried my best to roll them up, tie with toothpicks and lightly fry a while. Just to eliminate the 'raw' smell of ham, because miss L would not like it. Due to the same reason, I also boiled the bean and corn for a minute. A long food pick had helped me to secure the roll.

By side of the ham, were slices of dragon fruits. I also put in a boiled quail egg, decorated as a boy with nori, for him, Another was decorated as a hen for her. The rosy cheeks were coming from a dab of ketchup.

On last Saturday, I just had a lunch date with Lia
It was my first time to meet her and she is just adorable. We talked about almost everything -not only about bento- and I've enjoyed our conversation. It is so fun to meet people whom shared the same interest in real-life and befriended with them :D

Bento #84 mini stuff

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 3:03 PM 7 comments

Ouch..! I swear that the picture was flawless during the shot..! *hiks hiks* it must be the uploading problem again. I have uploaded this at least ten times before I gave up. Hope Blogger's maintenance later in the evening will run well.
Above is the box for mister J. He has mini triangle onigiri with cute faces on them, mini home-made burger, tofu sandwiches and chess-style apple piece.

This box was for miss L.
While J is a big fan of rice, L is a huge fan of bread. She can have bread for any mealtime, which we found it rather unusual, since bread is not a main meal in here.
This definitely showed when she asked me to prepare roll for today. She already had one -the same kind of roll- on yesterday
Today, I have prepared the roll with sliced cheese tucked inside, together with mini burger and mayo, also the same chess-style apple piece. On top, she said that she would love to have a bunny. So, here it is.

P.S. I have re-edit-ed the above image and it is fine now :) yipee

Bento #83

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 12:33 PM 5 comments
This is Luna's lunch box. She has a dinner roll. Inside I put scrambled egg with mayo.
The bear was made from cheese cut out. Earlier, I was thinking in making hide-and-peek bear. However, now it looks like the bear is sleeping underneath his blanket. I must have wrongly slitted the bread. LOL. On the side, there were sliced cantaloupe.

The face of bear was created with nori punch-outs from mini puncher.
On last weekend, I bought Kaerenmama's book and inside, there were gifts of mini seaweed puncher also some cutters in assorted size and shape. How exciting!
Kaerenmama bento book comes with free gifts inside

Bento #82 Dice

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 5:26 PM 4 comments
Some days ago, I had bought a Ludo board game. The one that I bought was the travel tin type, with magnetic tokens. The kids simply love to play it and I suspect this is due to new toy syndrome. Three of them are anxiously waiting for their turn to roll a dice then to count and move their tokens around. Well, they learn something from the game :)

The game was the inspiration for today's bento.

Is it too coincidental if I had a new square rice mould that I can practice with? *wide grin*
Just add nori cut outs to show the numbers, the rice dices are done.
On the side are fried chicken piece, chikuwa roll with kani flower and sauteed leafy vegetable with frozen-bought tofu sandwich.

Bento #81 Spaghetti

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 4:39 PM 4 comments
Aaahhh...finally succeeded in upload this picture. I have been trying for some days to do the post but always get in failures, perhaps due to slow connection.

Simple lunch for twins, spaghetti with home-made sauce came in separately.
On top of spaghetti, there were grated cheese, heart/star shaped cheddar, and grape tomato.
Just add a happy face girl (made from kamaboko and cheddar) on her box which I did not put it in his box, as to avoid girlish theme :b

Hope it is not too late to wish everyone a wonderful weekend :)

Bento #80 Think Pink

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 6:54 PM 11 comments
Lately, lots of tweets about #thinkpink and #projectpink in Twitter. This is to honor October as month of Breast Cancer Awareness. It is for a good cause and here is my pink theme bento. Please join along and click here for more information. Further information of Breast Cancer is in Susan G Komen site

Above bento was for my girl, which anyway I made another identical box for my boy.
The pink heart rice was shaped by rice mould. Before, the rice was mixed with pink dembu. While in pink cup, there was sauteed stringbean with carrots. On top was the pink ribbon, made from kani sheet. Well, kani has orange and white sheets, thus I put one drop of red food coloring into a small bowl of drinking water and immersed white kani for minutes. Until now, I don't know how much water or drops will provide me with the right color. I guess it was plain lucky because I got the exact pink shade that I wished for.

The remaining contents in box were left-over from kani, shaped in tiny flowers *just try to make use of every cooked stuff*, frozen-bought kani egg rolls and a rabbit-apple.

Too bad that I picked the wrong spot to do the photography and I was in hurry to leave the house too :(

Ritual Tidur Malam

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 4:22 PM 19 comments
Sesuai janji gue dulu, gue mau cerita ritual tidur malam Sebastian.
So, sesekali sampai sekarang masih demen tidur bareng kita.

gimana artinya terbalik? misalnya tu sarung guling gambar beruang, dia gak mau ngeliat gambar beruangnya terbalik alias nungging.

dueeeeehhhhh..

Trus, kapan donk pulesnya?
Begitu gue ikut-ikutan hampir pulas juga, biasanya dia udah tidur sih...ya kurang lebih 15 menit dari dia mulai berbaring gitu sih
Sebenernya gampang sih dia tidurnya, karena dia bisa aja tuh diam2 tertidur sendiri, apalagi kalo gue ikutan pura-pura ketiduran
cuma kadang "gerah" aja sama ritual tidur dia yang kebanyakan...xixixixi

Dipikir-pikir, ritual tidur dia hampir sama seperti ritual tidur Luna sama Jovann waktu seumur dia...
hehehehee..jadi, no surprise lah ya..hanya, Sebastian sedikit lebih lama daripada mereka...Hm..

Bento #79 Green Day

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 10:19 AM 7 comments
Happy Monday...!

This morning I encouraged myself to make egg sheet again....and still not satisfied with the result *hiks* I made green egg sheet, by giving two drops of light green food coloring to whisked egg before strained it. I thought have set the fire to the minimum...oh, well...I still believe practice makes perfect!

Underneath the green sheet is the steamed white rice. On top, there were kamaboko butterfly and sausage ladybug, also some carrot flowers. The trail from butterfly was made from black sesame seeds. In red cup, I put some sliced kiwi.

Bento #78 Good Nite

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 1:13 PM 12 comments
I lack of sleep lately *yawn yawn*

For above bento, I put sausages underneath of chicken ham 'blanket', on top of white steamed rice. I didn't realize that I am running out of quail eggs! Ouch, so I put boiled fish ball as head and decorated them with nori. A half-moon kamaboko and carrot star were added to accompany their sleep.

In one silicon cup, there were sauteed asparagus with baby corn. Some apple and kiwi slices put in another cup. To fill the empty space, some kani and grape tomato fitted in the red box.

Hopefully, they didn't fall asleep in class today after seeing their box. LOL

Happy weekend, guys...See you all next week :-D

Bento #77 Handsome Bear

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 11:57 AM 12 comments
Handsome bear in tuxedo
Lately, I have been attending several wedding parties of an old school friend and work colleague within last week. Well, and I will still have one upcoming wedding party by end of month. Those parties are the inspiration for today's bento.

I made the bear with help of cylinder rice mould, then lightly cover middle part with nori sheet. The face part decorated by smoked chicken sheet and nori cut-outs, while the black suit decorated with bow-tie and tiny buttons, all done by kani punch-outs. I assumed the ears were too small, but considering the size of his 'face', I let them be.

Beside the bear, the twins were also having buttered stir-fried baby corn with asparagus in silicon round cup, boiled tofu sandwich (frozen bought), hash brown in plastic square cup, cherry grapes and tomato. I accidentally tore the hash brown during cooking, ouch..!
The above box was prepared for Jovann, with all stuff inside are his favorites, from  blue color  cups  and an elephant food pick! I did not take a photograph of another box of her, which is in the same theme but all in pink. Yeay...

Bento #76 another onigiri

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 2:32 PM 9 comments

Today's bento is pretty simple, almost none of cooking required.

I made onigiri of boy and girl, decorated them with nori for hair, eyes and mouth, then add kani for their 'head scarf' since I am running out of ham. Side dishes are fish shaped nuggets, kamaboko stars, sliced kiwi, steamed broccoli and steamed baby corn. I inserted a new food pick onto baby corn, to make umbrella shape *always couldn't resist myself in getting new cute bento stuff!* The hat food pick was also inserted on top of onigiri, as to avoid girlie theme for Jovann's yellow box. Apparently it worked fine since he did not say anything after peeping.

Balada PRT

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 11:22 AM 12 comments

So, gue cari via makelar, namanya K, atas rekomendasi temen.
Pas dapet 1 orang, udah bulan Juni tuh alias deket lebaran, ya sudahlah gue pikir. Kan butuh orang gak liat waktu ya. Kalo emang pas butuh ya harus cari.
Dapet si mbak R, bisa kerja sih, dan mau disuruh-suruh, tapi dia blg kurang sabar ngadepin anak2..
ya udah, gue suruh kerjaan rumah aja.

Sebulan kemudian, gue butuh lagi, jadi gue ambil lagi ke K, dapet mbak M
Nah, mulai deh problem. mbak M ini kerja baru semingguan gitu, minta ijin pulang katanya neneknya sakit keras. Katanya sih seminggu pasti balik lagi
Makelar K bilang ditahanin aja bu anaknya toh udah mau deket lebaran, si M ini pasti gak balik kalo dikasi pulang, katanya.

Mertua bilang pasrah koq digantiin setelah lebaran gapapa *gue uda gak enak hati*

Trus, uda donk lebaran...
pas pulang R dan M ngaku mau balik.
Gue bilang sama M gak usah balik deh. Gue sama hubby gak sreg sama kerjanya.
Nunggu ampe kapan?
Lagian makelar K ini langsung sms gue lho sehari sebelumnya, nanya "mau pesen orang lagi gak bu?"

Gue : "saya mau pesan 1 pak"
Gue : "iya, saya mau pake 1 lagi suster aja.. *alesan...gue sebetulnya pengen coba cari dari yayasan lain*
K : "Ambil dua aja deh bu..saya kebetulan ada dua orang yang maunya kerja serumah...nanti saya kasi diskon"
Gue : "aduh, kalo yang begitu, ntar satu mau pulang, satu lagi ikutan pulang..saya gak mau ah pak"
K : "engga lah bu, kalo iya juga, saya garansi lah bu..toh banyak orang ini...kalo pulang, pasti bisa saya cari orang lain. Sekalian nih saya bawain yang gantinya buat si ibu (= mertua), jadi 3 orang"
uda debat-debat beberapa menit, akhirnya gue setujuin juga ambil.

Jadi deh tu dianter 3 orang
Trus dia bilang, batasnya emang biasanya abis lebaran dianggap pengambilan baru.
uda debat-debat lagi, akhirnya gue ngalah aja deh...biar urusan cepet kelar.

2 orang baru, mbak N ama T, kayanya sih bisa kerja dan mau pegang anak-anak.
Hari ke-14, sekitar jam 10.30 malam, suster sama mbak N teriak-teriak.
Gue bingung, pada ngapain sih?
kata mereka, si T ini tidur nangis-nangis sampe jerit-jerit...intinya, ni berdua ketakutan karena mereka tidur sekamar.
gue bilang, ngigo kali, bangunin aja
Selang sejam kemudian, mereka teriak lagi, sambil ada suara kedubrakan.
Gue penasaran, nongol ke kamar anak-anak (tempat mereka tidur)
Di sana, suster ama N uda mojok di tembok sambil gemeteran, uda nangis sesengukan, berpelukan berduaan.
Gue melongo..."ada apa sih kalian...???"
Ternyata mereka ketakutan katanya T ini nangis2 sambil berpose-pose kaya mau difoto.
Gue liat sih emang T lagi tiduran tapi sambil mukanya basah gitu.
Gue dorong2 bangunin...susah banget..kata mereka berdua, dari siang begitu kejadiannya dan dibangunin susah banget sampe ditabokin baru bangun
yailaaaahhh...gue suruh mereka coba usap-usapin mukanya pakai air, plus "ditabog2" baru dia bangun

Langsung gue sms si makelar K, gue bilang minta tuker aja deh.

Jum'at pagi hari, gue kembalikan ke tangan dia, sekalian ama setengah gaji. Gue gak mau ngutang apa-apa sama orang.
Mbak N sempet bilang mau ikutan pulang...eh..??
gue bilang baik-baik : "saya bukan mau nahan-nahan orang, tapi kamu bayangin apa jadinya rumah saya kalo berduaan begini langsung keluar? lagian semalam saya uda tanya kamu bilang gak ikutan pulang, skrg koq berubah pikiran? nanti kalo udah ada pengganti, kamu mau pulang ya sudahlah"
Bener donk ngomongan gue..

Jum'at malam, makelar K bilang, uda ada pengganti T dan bikin janji jemput dia deket rumah gue.
Sabtu pagi, dia bilang maap bu...anaknya gak jadi berangkat...haddoooohhh..gue masih coba sabar walau udah gondok.

duuuhhh, gue emosi donnnnggg, gue balas "kan saya emang uda janji mau ambil besok pagi!" kenapa dikasiin ke orang lain? maksudnya apa...??
Dia cuma bilang "maap bu, saya cariin lagi yang lain.."
Sorenya emang dia sempet minta gue ambil aja sekarang, dia uda gak ada duit lagi buat (ngasih) makan
gue sampe bilang, bukannya gue gak mau bantu lho..tapi emang rute gue gak bisa ke sono...masa iya gue diminta detik ini juga ke sono, gue kudu jalan...ya cocokin jadwal donk...lagian gue tegasin lagi gue ambil besok pagi.
Gue rasa dia cuma mau ambil yang duitnya paling cepet aja, masa beda gak sampe 24 jam, gue udah dilewatin...

Kenapa sih pada ajaib gitu pembantu2 jaman sekarang? gue sebetulnya gak salahin K karena emang balik lagi ke masing-masing orang, tapi liat cara kerja dia begitu, abis ini gue gak mau cari dia lagi deh
Masih sempet lagi dia bilang "sebenernya si T kemarin bilang betah kerja di tempat ibu"
Yaiyalah, gimana gak betah...pembantu gue kasi uang makan, jadi belanja sendiri, masak sendiri, dapur gue terpisah, mau nonton TV sendiri juga bisa karena TV terpisah, trus gue juga kerja dari pagi ampe malem, kaga sempet juga gue "gerecokin", gue cuma mau tau beres aje.
Cape dee...Abis ini tunggu dia gantiin trus bye bye aja deh.

Then...it is not the end of story...
Pas dinner gue ketemu ama mertua donk...dia langsung ngadu "itu pembantu ternyata ada suaminya di jkt selatan dan tiap minggu, si mbak minta off nginep sehari...mami sih kasi, tapi tadi mami mau keluar rumah, masa dia mau keluar nginep lagi...?? mami bilang kan seminggu sekali, kamis kemaren udah, skrg baru sabtu kenapa mau keluar lagi...eh, dia diem aja gak jawab.."

Dueh, mabok gue

Jadi, teman-teman...kalo masih ada yang punya rekomendasi yayasan/makelar lain, gue masih butuh nih...

Bento #75 Alien attack

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 11:51 AM 16 comments
Allien attack
Couldn't believe today is Friday again. With daily bento-making, time surely flies so quickly.

Today's menu for twins is alien attack!
The centerpiece of box was the sausage-alien, whom are kid-friendly *ha ha ha*, with its kamaboko and nori eyes. I was thinking to put two pieces of sausages, but afraid it would be too much for them. Because they already had steamed white rice with Pokemon sprinkles, sauteed string-bean with shrimp and kamaboko hearts, fried chicken bites (popcorn sized), narutomaki butterfly, kani white flower, slices papaya and cantaloupe.
On buttom, I put a halved-piece of chikuwa, to provide a firm stand for the alien.

Will the meal-portion enough for them...? I think so.

Happy Friday and weekend for all my friends...:-D
