Halloween

Hello..
How are you?

Still can't believe that today is the end of October already.. and it is a Halloween day.
We do not normally celebrate it in our home, but the kids know about this.
Perhaps from movies, books and friends (where else, hm?)
So I did some bento with a touch of Halloween festivity for them

Inside the box:
* Pumpkins made from carrot, on top of white steamed rice and chicken floss
* Steamed baby corn and baby green squash
* Chicken sauteed with teriyaki sauce
* Quail egg
* Grape and strawberry

I made three boxes of the same design.... as usual.. >,<

Day two

Inside the box:
* First tier: Hello Kitty white bread, smeared with chocolate paste by the inside
The facial decoration came from nori, kamaboko (for witch's hat) and corn.
* Second tier: two cute mummies, made from boiled cocktail sausages, wrapped with kani and decorated with nori, edamame, grapes and strawberries.

Recently I bought quite a lot of strawberries. They came in 2 boxes for one price. I usually had a "headache" in storing strawberries, but lately I just froze them. Most of times, we just take some from freezer and toss them into a blender with everything else we want to, for a strawberry juice.

My girl loved the bento.
I didn't prepare ones for the boys. It would be too girly for them. LOL

See you around

Bento 229 Boo!

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 12:11 PM 2 comments
This would be my last bento for Halloween this year :D

For kids: Spaghetti bolognese with "ghost" cheese on top, mango pudding in yellow cup with some jelly balls and some grapes.

More cheesy version: spaghetti with separate homemade bolognese sauce, grated parmesan on both spaghetti and sauce, "ghost" cheddar on top, bear-shaped mango pudding with sliced grapes.

Yummy...?? you bet... and my kids love spaghetti so much
They got excited only by looking at their boxes.

Bento 228

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 10:58 AM 0 comments
Good morning...

Continuing the excitement of making Halloween's bento

The twins had white steamed rice, boiled carrots and narutomaki, snap peas, edamame, grape tomato, apples, tangerine and grape.

I filled the rice with chicken floss and sprinkled some on top.
I also put the "witch's hat" free-hand cuts from nori and added jelly balls to sweeten the appearance.

Do they look like hats to you? *wondering....*

Bento 227 Pumpkin!

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 12:55 PM 4 comments
Hi Everyone

This is my first Halloween theme bento ever. Yay... :o)
In previous years, I haven't make any Halloween bento until now.

And this is my lunch!
Kids are having school off days and will return on tomorrow.

Inside the box: two onigiris, scrambled egg with frozen vegetables, edamame and mixed berries (strawberry, raspberry and blackberry). The onigiri was covered with pohpohan leaf (Pilea trinervia Wight, for latin name) and decorated with punched out carrot. I only added nori to make them Halloween's pumpkins. Too bad they are not spooky enough. LOL.

I didn't know if pohpohan leaf is widely available outside of Indonesia but in here, is very easy to find. It has subtle mango fragrant and taste. So delicious when raw eaten with chili sauce dip.

Have a nice lunch ... {^.^}
