Bento #147 The Puppy

Posted by Journal Mommy Yenny at 8:30 AM
This weekend, I tried to do stuffed bread bento. Thanks to Lia I gave it a try  after reading her tutorial because I normally do only burger and hotdog buns. Many bento books will show how to do stuffed bread too.

The puppy - stuffed bread bento

I used 3 different kind of sandwich bread: wheat (light brown), pandan (green) and chocolate sandwich bread. For inside, I put chicken floss, marmalade and blueberry jam. I should remember not to fill so much, otherwise it will leak and spoil the bread. The long ears were bread cut-out too, while their eyes were from cheese sheet. Raw spaghetti was used to keep the eyes and ears in place. I rolled the bread with rolling pin for the ears to keep them not-so-fluffy :)

For final touch, they eyes were tinted while nose and mouth were drawn with chocolate paste using a toothpick. Guess that using chocolate pen would give better result, I will try it in some other time.

This bento is given as a birthday gift for a good friend of mine and I chose puppy theme since dog is her Chinese zodiac sign. I put each bread in cupcake paper and added some strawberries also lemon wedges, as to prevent the content from shifting around during transportation. I am pleased that she loved it.

I made quite a lot of these for kids' Sunday breakfast. Miss L and mister B love bread so much, while mister J prefers to have a full meal, which means rice and its side dishes. But he ate a piece though. I said "mommy is trying a new recipe. Would you be my food-tester guy?" LOL... He was so sweet to always say yes to my requests.

Wishing you all a great start of the week  :b

@ Lia Chen, thanks a lot, dear. Yes, the bottom part successfully remain closed haha. That was the matter that I feared the most. Yeah..this morning the girl said "mom, I want another one or two of those bread like yesterday, but without the long ears. Perhaps kinda face of a girl. With eyes and mouth only should be fine.." Whew >,<! She dictated me :b
